There is no warranty on the Siding-Jet sprayer. The reason is the pump. The pump has a manufacturer’s warranty of 1 year. However, using it to pump sodium hypochlorite, commonly known as bleach, voids the warranty. Many brands of cleaner that are labeled to clean vinyl siding contain some bleach. Knowing the use for which I am offering the Siding-Jet, the pump manufacturer will deny any claim.

However, this pump will last for at least 100 hours if you rinse it after every use. If we assume that we must clean our siding every other year, and that the pump is exposed to cleaning solution for 30 minutes each cleaning session (pump works to spray siding; pump waits while you rinse siding; you rinse pump), then the pump will last for 400 years.

Professionals use this same pump every day and many do not clean it. They replace the pump every 3 months & build the cost into each job.

To clean the pump, empty any cleaning solution remaining in the tank after you have completed spraying and rinsing the siding. Then put 5 gallons of fresh water from the garden hose into the tank. Run the pump for at least one minute until all of the water is pumped out of the tank through the spray wand.

All other components of the Siding-Jet sprayer, such as hose, tank, & fittings are not affected by chemicals.

If any part of your north-facing vinyl siding is more than 20 feet above ground (orange hash marks) and less than 36 feet above ground, then you need the Siding-Jet sprayer. You can clean all of your siding standing safely on the ground without a ladder.

If your north-facing vinyl siding is less than 20 feet above ground (gray area), then you can clean it using a pump up garden sprayer. You do not need the Siding-Jet sprayer.

The componenets are as follows:

  • Suction hose & strainer inside of tank;
  • Tank, 15 gallon, polyethylene;
  • Electric pump, 5.3 gallon per minute with a 6 foot cord that plugs into household outlet; mounted on top of tank.
  • On/off switch plugged into end of 6 foot cord into which you plug an extension cord;
  • Sprayer hose, 20 feet;
  • Ball valve that allows you to turn the spray on & off; glass-reinforced PVC;
  • Spray wand; 12" long schedule 80 PVC pipe;
  • Quick-conncect fitting that allows you to change spray nozzles from fan to stream; stainless steel;
  • Nozzle holder that plugs into the quick-connect & holds 2 spray nozzles; stainless
  • 2 spray nozzles, one fan spray pattern & one stream spray; stainless.

I have included a plastic stream nozzle. It is not part of the sprayer. You will attach this nozzle to your garden hose to rinse the cleaning solution off of the siding. It will give higher reach than most aadjustable nozzles.

I have found a liquid cleaning product called "30 Seconds Outdoor Cleaner" to work best. Choose the concentrate rather than the ready-to-use or hose-end packaging.

There are many videos on YouTube demonstrating the effectiveness of this product, just type the "30 seconds outdoor cleaner" into the search bar.

This product is available in most big box home stores like Home Depot & Lowe's, many local hardware stores, and online at Amazon.

I am proposing the Siding-Jet as a tool for homeowners to do-it-yourselves. But I will use professional practices to explain the gold standard and the silver standard for cleaning vinyl siding. The silver standard is to pressure wash. The gold standard is to soft wash.

The Siding-Jet provides soft wash, it does not provide pressure wash.

Pressure washing is a common method of cleaning vinyl siding. The benefit of pressure washing vinyl siding is primarily to the professional service provider, not the siding to be cleaned. Pressure washers can be used for multiple types of cleaning: concrete; vehicles; production machinery. Add houses & you have more jobs. Pressure washing will remove everything from vinyl siding. But thousands of pounds of pressure can have effects on the siding that are not good. It can force water into areas that should not be wet. It can leave uneven patterns of extreme clean next to partial clean.  CertainTeed is a large manufacturer of vinyl siding. They have the following message on their weibsite: "NOTE: We do not recommend power washing vinyl or polymer siding as it can cause moisture intrusion, damage, and /or discoloration." Pressure washers can be configured to spray solutions other than water, and at lower pressure. But this requires additional components & is more complicated than most DIYers want to attempt.

Using the Siding-Jet falls into the soft wash category. Professionals doing soft wash use the same 5.5 GPM diaphram pump as the Siding-Jet, except their pump is powered by a 12-volt battery to allow for mobility from job to job. Their poly tanks are bigger, their hoses longer, and they mix their own cleaning concentrate. But the output of the nozzles is the same: the same solution components at the same pressure, 70 psi. DIYers can achieve the gold standard with the Siding-Jet.

I am spraying my house in the video. The side of my house is 38 feet wide & 27 feet high at the peak of the roof, which gives 855 square feet of siding. I can spray the entire one side in 15 minutes. I use 7 gallons of cleaning solution (3.5 gallons of water plus 3.5 gallons of cleaning solution). I can rinse the same side in 10 minutes. I could do it in 3 minutes spray and 3 minutes rinse. But the north side of my house has a 5 foot setback from the neighbor's house with a fence between. This requires some maneuvering in tight spaces that would not be necessary on the south side of my house, which you see in the video. I have added in the time for the maneuvering to give a realistic idea of how long it takes to wash the side of a house and how much cleaning solution we need.
